
Fuel prices move constantly, and a lot of the advice out there is either obvious or doesn't hold up. Here's what genuinely moves the needle.
Fill up on a full tank, not repeated half-tanks. It sounds trivial, but topping up little and often means you're statistically more likely to catch prices mid-cycle rather than at the low point, and you're making more trips to the servo than you need to.
Use the right grade, not a higher one "just in case". As covered in our fuel grade guide, running premium in a car that only needs 91 doesn't help performance or economy — it just costs more per litre for identical driving.
Join a loyalty program that actually pays back per litre, not just occasional discount codes.
